Managing Director of the Fujairah International Marine Club, Major Ahmed Ibrahim has announced the completion of the preparations for the UIM’s General Assembly, which will be attended by H.H. Mohammed Bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, H.H. Sheikh Saif Bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Chairman of the Fujairah International Marine Club and H.E. Mohammed Saeed Al Dhanhani, Vice Chairman of the Fujairah International Marine Club, UIM President and all of the General Assembly’s participating members. The General Assembly will take place at the Novotel Hotel, Fujairah, from the 16th to the 23rd of October, 2016.
Major Ahmed pointed out that Fujairah’s winning bid to host the UIM’s 89th General Assembly is considered to be another exceptional achievement to the UAE’s sports scene, and especially water sports.
He added that Fujairah’s bid was submitted at the 88th UIM General Assembly that took place in Monaco, and it received the majority of the votes. Winning the bid is an attest to the great value and belief placed in the UAE, and an acknowledgment of the Fujairah International Marine Club’s success that spans over 15 years and has witnessed the organization and hosting of various water sports competitions to a high degree of satisfaction. He also highlighted the important role the UAE’s marine clubs in the success of water sports in the country, and the inspirational role of the Dubai International Marine Club and the exceptional contribution of Mr. Saeed Hareb, President of the UAE’s Marine Sports Federation. Developing water sports and raising awareness for over 20 years has resulted in the UAE achieving a considerable amount of success in various water sports competitions around the world.
Major Ahmed praised the collaborative efforts of local and federal authorities; the police, the coastguard, the municipality, Fujairah hospital, the ministry of works and the fisherman association for continuously helping make sports activities a success in Fujairah.
More than 40 countries from all continents will be represented at the general assembly, out of a total of 50 countries.
He concluded by saying that the UAE’s marine clubs in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Fujairah and Sharjah serve as landmarks and gateways to water sports on an international level.
